"The Best Tea in Memphis"
Ginger Sage Black Tea
Update: I got the jar mix from Casablanca (which, I believe, has black tea, dried sage, and dried mint), so now I also add some fresh mint to mine! Also, I made a VIDEO! Check it out!
Cody and I like to eat at a Mediterranean Restaurant here in Memphis called Casablanca. They have a drink that is called "The Best Tea in Memphis." I figured out what the ingredients were so that I could replicate it. The secret.....lots of honey! Yum.
Ingredients
5-6 Black Tea Bags
(I use decaf so that I can drink it at all times of the day....but caffeine may not affect you that much)
1 honey bear
1 lemon
1 chunk of ginger
1 handful of sage
Directions
Peel the ginger (use a knife, the back of a spoon, or a vegetable peeler). Then, cut it into a few big chunks.
Add the ginger to about a gallon of water and bring to a boil. Boil for about 15 minutes.
Turn off the heat. Tear the sage and add it to the pot.
(I have a huge pot of sage growing on our balcony, so I just go out and pick it. So fun.)
Add the black tea bags, and let them steep for about 4-5 minutes.
Pour it into a jug. Here, you have an option: pour through a sieve to remove the sage and ginger OR leave them in. If you leave them in, the end of the batch will have a crazy bite! Good stuff.
Add in the honey bear and stir. I usually add the lemon to my individual glass of tea, but you can always squeeze it in now. Put it in the refrigerator until it cools off. If you are hasty like me, just pour some over ice and try it.
Drink up!
Drink up!
God bless you and your food!
You can also buy the stuff. A small jar (which lasts forever) is $6. A large jar is $10. I've made 5 sizable batches from the small jar and I can't even tell I've used any.
ReplyDeleteYes! Thank you for sharing this! I love to hear how long their jar lasts. I'll have to get a jar next time we are in town and compare. In related news, it only took me 7 years to respond! Haha! Ah, life. Thanks again!
DeleteBuy it where?
ReplyDeleteAt the Casablanca restaurant. They sell it as well as other items

DeleteAS a former Memphian, I am so thankful you took time to replicate this recipe. I seriously dream of this tea and am currently making a huge batch :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time to comment, friend! I am a former Memphian too (had to move for work), and I just bought a jar of their dry tea mix the last time we went to visit about 6 month ago. I can tell there is some mint in there too, so I'll probably add some of that next time. How did your batch turn out? I hope it "scratched the itch" for the tea craving. haha! Slurp! Happy day to you friend! Much love and God bless!
DeleteThis is the best tea ever. I was hooked the second I smelt it as it was coming to my table. Thank you for sharing the recipe. now i wont have to spend endless hours figuring it out. Peace and love...
