Our entire extended family loves when Cody gets the itch to smoke some ribs, turkey, or chicken wings. YUM! This time around Cody was smoking ribs. About 4 or so years ago, I bought Cody a smoker for Christmas, and it has paid for itself over and over again (this one was $80). I just love watching Cody do his magic, so that I can eat those ribs!

Cody starts the charcoal and fills the water pan. |

Cody has everything set up and ready to assemble. |

For this round of smokin', Cody was using apple wood chips, but he has also used hickory and mesquite. |

Cody puts a rub on the ribs before they go into the smoker. His rub usually includes: brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, and salt, but it changes sometimes. |

Charcoal is the bottom layer of the smoker. To get the smoker going, Cody usually starts two sets of charcoal. |

To know the charcoal is ready, it turns a bit grey. Don't touch! |

Next addition is the water bath which can alter: water, chicken broth, beer. I've even read that you can cook potatoes and carrots in the water bath while it smokes. |

Our smoker has two grate layers, so we can fit so many yummy things in it. |

Top layer in; ready to go! |
Cody checks to make sure all is secure, and adds a few more chips. Usually the chips are soaked in water so that they give off the smoke.
After about 7 hours, the ribs come off, and everyone swarms the meat! Yummy!
Gimme some of those ribs!
